IPAC Warns Against Misusing Government Power in Osun Governorship Poll

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has cautioned political actors and government institutions against manipulating the Osun State governorship election through the misuse of state machinery, demanding a fair and transparent democratic process.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has issued a stern advisory to political factions and state bodies, cautioning against the exploitation of government resources to influence the upcoming governorship election in Osun State. National Chairman Dr. Yusuf M. Dantalle emphasized that the electoral outcome must reflect the genuine will of the people, achieved through free choice rather than coercion, bribery, or the weaponization of public offices.

Addressing the press in Abuja following a General Assembly meeting, Dantalle stressed that state institutions serve the public interest and should remain neutral during political contests. He urged all participants to maintain calm, avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and reject violence or thuggery. The council explicitly condemned vote-buying, noting that ballots are sacred and should never be exchanged for financial gain or political patronage.

Furthermore, the organization called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold professional standards, ensuring that electoral materials are deployed efficiently and results are processed with transparency. Security forces were also reminded to protect the democratic process impartially, without suppressing legitimate political activities. Regarding the EFCC’s decision to freeze state accounts, IPAC expressed concern, characterizing the move as potentially politically motivated and detrimental to governance.

Ultimately, the council urged candidates to accept the official results and handle any disputes through established legal frameworks. By prioritizing democratic integrity over partisan victory, IPAC hopes to ensure a credible election where the voice of the Osun electorate remains the final authority.
