Academic operations have ceased at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, as the local Academic Staff Union of Universities chapter initiated a complete and indefinite work stoppage. The union is protesting the non-payment of over N3 billion in owed benefits.
Dr. Zubairu Loko, the union chairman, publicized the industrial action on Monday following an emergency session. He confirmed the move aligns with recent mandates established by the union’s National Executive Council. The missing payments include Earned Academic Allowance, minimum wage adjustments, and national salary increments for faculty.
Dr. Loko criticized both the university administration and the Nasarawa State government for ignoring staff welfare. Despite numerous attempts at negotiation involving the Governing Council and government representatives, no agreement was reached. Consequently, the union has suspended all instruction, research, and student supervision until the full balance of the debt is settled.
