The Osun State Police Command has pledged to secure a peaceful and transparent environment for the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo, tasked with overseeing election security, shared this commitment while meeting with a delegation of women led by First Lady Titilola Adeleke at the Osogbo headquarters.
The group, which included Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs Ayobola Awolowo and Special Adviser on Market Affairs Eniola Omotoso, marched to the headquarters to file a petition. They expressed concerns regarding the alleged harassment of voters and political figures. Specifically, the First Lady reported that leaders within the Accord party are facing potential arrests and protested the recent detention of the Commissioner for Environment, who she claimed was mistreated while in custody.
Addressing these claims, Commissioner Etaifo emphasized that his arrival in the state was focused on maintaining order. He noted that he operates under the specific instructions of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to foster stability and public trust ahead of the vote. While cautioning against actions that might escalate political tension, Etaifo promised that the command would review the submitted petition and modify its security approach to ensure all residents can safely participate in the democratic process.
