Arise Television personality Rufai Oseni recently challenged claims that the Dangote Refinery is a triumph of President Bola Tinubu’s current administration. Instead, Oseni asserted that the project was primarily facilitated by the policies enacted under former President Muhammadu Buhari and the tenure of ex-Central Bank governor Godwin Emefiele.
The commentator’s remarks followed statements made by Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service. During a media appearance, Adedeji praised the Tinubu administration’s economic record, specifically citing the refinery’s role in local fuel distribution. Oseni countered this, noting that the refinery’s construction was made possible by the naira’s stability during the previous administration.
Furthermore, Oseni pointed out that the current government has struggled to fulfill crude supply obligations to the refinery. He highlighted the irony that the facility must occasionally purchase Nigerian oil from international sources. While acknowledging that the current administration has secured certain economic victories, Oseni emphasized that the public continues to suffer from the severe consequences of recent policy shifts, including significant corporate foreign exchange losses and the overall strain on the national GDP.
