BBC Cymru Wales has finalized a three-year contract with the Football Association of Wales to air selected matches from the Novira Cymru Premier. The arrangement promises at least 20 live broadcasts per season via BBC iPlayer, lasting through 2029. Additionally, BBC Sport Online will provide comprehensive updates on the league.
The debut broadcast on BBC iPlayer features Barry Town United versus Cardiff Met on August 15 at 12:30 BST. The following week, on August 22, the platform will stream the match between Ammanford and Connah’s Quay Nomads, also starting at 12:30 BST.
Carolyn Hitt, the head of sport at BBC Wales, stated that the deal reinforces their dedication to showcasing Welsh football for free. The league itself has undergone significant changes for its 35th season, expanding from 12 to 16 teams. New clubs including Airbus UK, Holywell Town, Trefelin BGC, Cambrian United, Ammanford, and Llandudno have joined the top tier, with fixtures primarily moving to Friday nights.
Jack Sharp of the FAW expressed optimism regarding the partnership, noting that the increased free-to-air coverage will help broaden the league’s audience. He highlighted that by doubling the number of free matches, the FAW aims to enhance the profile of Welsh domestic football alongside its existing Cymru Football TV offerings.
