Travelers faced significant disruptions on the Mokwa-Bida road after residents shut down the route to protest ongoing bandit activity. According to a News Agency of Nigeria correspondent, all access points to Mokwa were obstructed, leaving numerous passengers stuck since Saturday evening.
Local resident Saliu Mohammed stated that suspected criminals recently kidnapped 15 individuals from the area. While these claims remain unverified, Mohammed expressed frustration that security forces have failed to secure their release. He insisted that the blockade would continue until the hostages are freed.
Affected commuters shared their struggles while waiting for the situation to resolve. Joy Amaechi, traveling from Ilorin to Abuja, reported being delayed for five hours and urged the government to intervene. Driver Henry Nwachuckwu noted that he had been stuck since 7 a.m. Sunday, with the road remaining impassable as of mid-morning.
