Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally turned down the 15-point peace initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump to conclude the conflict in Gaza. During a cabinet session on Sunday, the Israeli leader declared that his country would refuse to pull military forces from the region until the total disarmament of Hamas is verified.
While Trump labeled his proposal a historic progression toward regional stability following reports of Hamas accepting disarmament terms, the reality remains complex. Hamas maintains that it will only surrender its heavy weaponry once Israel ceases all hostile actions and completes a full troop withdrawal.
Tensions remain high as Israel continues to conduct military operations in the territory, even following a prior ceasefire deal from last October. Netanyahu emphasized that he is currently in talks with American representatives to determine future steps, explicitly warning that Israel will not accept any form of staged or insincere disarmament from Hamas.
