The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully thwarted multiple attempts to move illicit substances across borders. Agents stopped 1.2kg of cocaine hidden inside 25 phone chargers headed to Saudi Arabia via a Lagos courier service. Additionally, 500 grams of cocaine disguised in a backpack destined for Italy was seized on August 3, 2026, alongside 2.3kg of synthetic cannabis imported from the U.S. at a separate logistics firm.
At the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, authorities apprehended 30-year-old businessman Joseph Cyril. He was caught attempting to board a flight to Italy while carrying 98 ingested wraps of cocaine weighing 1.51kg. Cyril admitted to swallowing the narcotics at an Anambra hotel to earn 3,500 Euros for a planned move to Germany.
Significant inland seizures also occurred. Officers on the Akure-Ilesha Expressway recovered 1,633kg of skunk hidden within rice chaff bags, resulting in the arrest of Buba Jamilu and Sanusi Ibrahim. In Oyo State, a raid on a warehouse in Elebure led to the confiscation of 731kg of cannabis and the arrest of Felicia Thompson. Meanwhile, in Edo and Abia states, officials recovered hundreds of kilograms of skunk and apprehended local operators. Following a lengthy investigation, wanted dealer Adome Claude Sikuru was captured in Lagos with 88.5kg of cannabis.
At the Tin Can Port in Lagos, a joint task force discovered 309kg of cannabis-infused edibles inside a shipping container, leading to the arrest of Larry Nnaji. While enforcement efforts continued, the agency also advanced its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through nationwide educational outreach programs. Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa praised these multi-state operations and encouraged continued vigilance.
