The Federal Government has officially scheduled December 2027 as the completion date for the Makurdi–Otukpo–Obolo-Affor–9th Mile Enugu dual carriageway. Eng. Mukaila Danladi, the Federal Controller of Works for Benue State, shared this timeline during a site inspection by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors.
To ensure progress, the 258-kilometre project has been divided into five distinct segments. Despite challenging weather, contractors have already laid 86 kilometres of binder course across both lanes. The road serves as a vital extension of the Abuja-Akwanga-Nasarawa-Makurdi corridor, linking the North Central and South East regions.
Financing for the venture is provided by the China EXIM Bank alongside Federal Government counterpart funds, with construction managed by the China Harbour Engineering Company. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga praised the initiative, noting that the project has already reduced travel time between Makurdi and Otukpo from three hours to roughly ninety minutes. Onanuga emphasized that the infrastructure development under President Bola Tinubu is a significant achievement that improves national connectivity and facilitates the movement of commercial goods.
