Liverpool Nearing Loan Agreement for Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo

Liverpool is closing in on a season-long loan deal for Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo, who aims to secure more frequent playing time under manager Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool is nearing a deal to bring Barcelona skipper Ronald Araújo to Anfield on a season-long loan, featuring an option for a full purchase. Insider Fabrizio Romano indicates that the Uruguayan defender has agreed to the move, seeking consistent minutes outside of Spain.

Joining manager Andoni Iraola, the 27-year-old will bolster a backline needing support. Araújo’s ability to operate as both a centre-back and right-back provides essential utility, especially while Conor Bradley remains out with an injury. The club prioritized defensive reinforcements following their U.S. tour and the exit of Ibrahima Konaté to Real Madrid.

Since arriving from Boston River in 2018, Araújo has represented Barcelona 213 times. Though a long-standing defensive pillar, his standing has shifted under Hansi Flick due to competition from players like Pau Cubarsí and Eric García, alongside persistent fitness setbacks. The defender views the Premier League transition as the ideal path to regain his form and regular playing time.
