Welsh cyclist Emma Finucane has set a new record, becoming the inaugural sprint cyclist to secure four gold medals at a single Commonwealth Games. Her recent victory in the keirin follows her earlier triumphs in the team sprint, individual sprint, and the 1,000m time trial.
This impressive performance saw her defeat Olympic champion Ellesse Andrews at the Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. Finucane, 23, completed this sweep over four consecutive days, surpassing previous marks set by Anna Meares and Andrews, who both achieved three track titles at past Games. She now holds the title of the most successful Welsh female athlete in Commonwealth history, moving ahead of Para-sprinter Olivia Breen. While weightlifter David Morgan maintains the overall Welsh record with nine golds, Finucane’s efforts have significantly contributed to Wales’ current medal count of 31.
