Manchester City has finalized the acquisition of Argentine goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille for a fee of 1.7 million pounds. The 34-year-old has committed to a two-year contract, marking his second stint at the Etihad Stadium following a tenure during the 2016-17 season that did not include any senior appearances.
Rulli is perhaps best remembered for his decisive contribution in the 2021 Europa League final, where he successfully converted a spot-kick and subsequently saved David de Gea’s effort to secure Villarreal’s victory over Manchester United. A veteran of the international stage, Rulli has represented Argentina eight times and was a member of the squads that triumphed in the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Copa America.
His professional journey has included stints at clubs such as Real Sociedad, Montpellier, and Ajax. Rulli arrives in Manchester to serve as backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma, stepping into the role vacated by James Trafford, who recently transferred to Leeds in a deal valued at up to 45 million pounds.
