Coventry City has secured the services of Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi in a deal that marks a new transfer record for the club. The 20-year-old talent has committed to a long-term agreement after Coventry reached a deal with Danish side Nordsjaelland. The total transaction is valued at 27 million euros, roughly £23.1 million, with an additional 3 million euros in potential performance-based add-ons.
Yirenkyi, who joined Nordsjaelland in 2024 from the Right to Dream academy, gained international recognition during this summer’s World Cup. He netted a decisive stoppage-time goal against Panama and earned his first senior cap for Ghana in May 2025. Last season, he was honored as the Danish Superliga’s young player of the year.
Manager Frank Lampard, who guided Coventry back to the Premier League following a 25-year wait, has now added Yirenkyi as his fifth summer recruit. The player expressed his enthusiasm for working with Lampard, citing the manager’s tactical philosophy as a major draw. While his natural position is in midfield, Yirenkyi is recognized for his utility, frequently filling in as a right-back.
Industry experts, including Danish football analyst Nicklas Degn, have praised the move, describing the youngster as a highly developed prospect who performs with notable maturity. Degn noted that Yirenkyi was widely expected to transition to a more prominent league, particularly following his standout performances on the global stage.
