Four apprehended following violent disturbance in Pontypool area

Four men have been arrested and two individuals remain in critical condition following a violent incident in Pontnewydd near Pontypool on Thursday night.

Gwent Police have confirmed that four men were taken into custody after a violent confrontation occurred in Pontnewydd, near Pontypool, on Thursday evening. The incident, which took place around 19:15, resulted in three individuals requiring hospital treatment. Two of those hospitalized are currently in critical condition.

Authorities deployed specialist firearms units, air support, and medical teams to the scene. Two of the four men arrested remain in police custody while the investigation continues.

Detective Chief Superintendent Anne-Marie Salwey stated that such violence is intolerable and that law enforcement will hold those responsible accountable. She acknowledged local anxiety regarding the incident and confirmed that an increased police presence is expected in the area.

Investigators are urging members of the public to come forward with any relevant CCTV or dashcam footage recorded near Hospital Road and Mill Road between 19:00 and 19:30 on Thursday. Due to the ongoing investigation, the section of road between Mill Road and Hospital Road remains shut, and drivers are advised to find different routes.
