The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully confiscated a massive haul of narcotics worth approximately N10 billion at ports and airports in Lagos. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s director of media and advocacy, detailed the operations in a recent statement from Abuja.
A 55-year-old trader from Balogun market was apprehended for trying to smuggle 3.30 kilograms of cocaine to the United Kingdom. He had hidden the drugs inside food packaging cartons. The arrest followed a tip-off that led authorities to cargo agents, eventually exposing the syndicate’s leader.
In a separate case, a 31-year-old entrepreneur was arrested at her home in Surulere after the agency seized 2.80 kg of a synthetic cannabis strain known as Loud, which had been imported from the United States. Furthermore, agents recovered 2.2 million pills of Tapentadol, valued at over N2.2 billion, arriving from India via an Air Maroc flight.
The agency also intercepted a shipment of tramadol hidden within containers of black soap destined for the UK. Finally, at the Apapa seaport, officials discovered 4,777 sachets of Canadian Loud, weighing over 2,300 kg and valued at N7.1 billion. The narcotics were concealed inside three vehicles within a shipping container.
