The situation escalated on Wednesday, August 5, following claims that state chairman Jonah Theman Kalpenge had been removed from his position. By Thursday, party officials aligned with the chairman dismissed this action as invalid.
During a gathering of state and local representatives in Yola, leadership figures labeled the suspension as a procedural violation and lacking any legal basis. They announced the formation of a five-person disciplinary panel tasked with reviewing the actions of those involved in the unauthorized meeting.
This committee, led by Dauda Peter alongside members Yahuza Kabiru, Hauwa Musa, Sarah Sunday, and Moses Gaji, has summoned Kamalludeen Jibrilla Aliyu, Suleiman Abdulkareem, Andrew Adamu, Abubakar Aliyu, and Tufanus Daniel. They are expected to report to the Yola secretariat on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
With Senator Ishaku Abbo set as the governorship candidate for the 2027 race, these new disputes highlight ongoing fragility within the state party, reminiscent of the instability faced prior to the 2023 elections.
