The Nigerian Navy has intensified its crackdown on oil theft by shutting down two unauthorized refining locations in the Niger Delta. This action is part of the ongoing Operation Delta Sentinel designed to dismantle illegal energy networks.
Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Information, announced on Thursday that naval personnel confiscated roughly 85,300 litres of suspected stolen crude oil. These materials were found stored in reservoirs and pits located within the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni region of Rivers State.
The operation follows a similar discovery in the same vicinity just days prior. Authorities noted that these repeated findings demonstrate that while criminals continue to attempt to restart illicit refining, the constant presence of naval forces prevents them from establishing permanent networks. By targeting these sites, the Navy aims to defend national economic interests and protect vital oil and gas infrastructure from further sabotage.
