Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the senator for Sokoto South, has urged the government to implement more robust security protocols in response to a surge in violent attacks across Sokoto State. His office issued a statement highlighting the recent unrest in the Kebbe, Shagari, and Sabon Birni local government areas, where armed groups have targeted civilians, kidnapped residents, and stolen livestock.
During the violence, Assistant Superintendent of Police Hussaini Balarabe lost his life while confronting bandits in Kebbe. Tambuwal honored the officer’s dedication and offered his sympathies to the police force and the bereaved family. The senator also reached out to the citizens of Shagari and Sabon Birni, acknowledging the devastating impact of these incursions on their daily lives and regional stability.
Tambuwal warned that ongoing violence in the North-West is severely hindering economic growth, food security, and rural stability. While he acknowledged the hard work of current security forces, he pressed the federal government to prioritize intelligence, rapid deployment, and better-coordinated defensive tactics. Furthermore, he advocated for the swift rescue of captives and the apprehension of perpetrators. The senator concluded by encouraging local leaders and residents to collaborate with law enforcement by providing actionable intelligence, emphasizing that unified action is essential to restoring peace.
