Super Falcons Secure Quarter-Final Spot After 6-2 Victory Over Egypt

Nigeria advances to the WAFCON quarter-finals after a commanding 6-2 win over Egypt, setting up a matchup against Cameroon.

The Nigerian Super Falcons have advanced to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals following a decisive 6-2 triumph against Egypt. The nine-time titleholders showcased a powerful offensive performance to ensure their spot in the next phase of the tournament.

Asisat Oshoala initiated the scoring with a penalty right before halftime, followed by Gift Monday adding a second goal ten minutes into the second half. Although N. Ghazy responded for Egypt with a penalty, Uchenna Kanu reclaimed the two-goal lead for Nigeria in the 81st minute. Chidinma Ucheibe then extended the lead to 4-1 shortly after via another penalty.

While Ghazy secured her second goal of the match in stoppage time, the Super Falcons remained relentless. Rasheedat Ajibade netted a late penalty during the extended time, and an additional goal finalized the 6-2 scoreline. This victory sets up a quarter-final clash against Group D winners, Cameroon, as Nigeria continues its campaign for another continental trophy.
