Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani has confirmed he is leaving Boca Juniors after a three-year stint. The 39-year-old forward, who previously played for clubs like Manchester United, Napoli, and Paris Saint-Germain, arrived at the Argentine team from Valencia in 2023.
Through a video on his Instagram, Cavani reflected on his time at the club, noting that the journey itself was rewarding. He stopped short of declaring his retirement from professional club football. Cavani, nicknamed El Matador, retired from international duty for Uruguay two years ago as the nation’s second-highest goalscorer with 58 goals.
His tenure at Boca proved challenging, as he concluded his time there without securing a trophy. Cavani admitted to facing obstacles that hindered his ability to make a significant impact. Physical issues plagued his time in Argentina, resulting in 28 goals over 81 total appearances, with only 27 of those matches seeing him play the full duration.
