Jeremy Monga recently participated in his first match for Manchester City during their pre-season tour. The 17-year-old, who transferred from Leicester in a deal worth £10 million, joined the reigning Premier League champions this summer. He saw action during a 3-1 victory against a K-League XI held in Seoul, where he nearly scored but had an effort disallowed for handball.
Before signing with City, Monga was reportedly very close to joining Arsenal. However, he chose the Manchester club due to their established pathway for young players and consistent success. Monga, an England Under-19 international, previously made headlines as the third-youngest player to debut in the Premier League while playing for Leicester.
Reflecting on his time at Leicester, Monga expressed gratitude for the foundation he received, despite the team’s struggles in recent seasons. He noted that the physicality of the Championship provided a challenging learning environment. Looking ahead, the Coventry-born player hopes to model his style of play after his idol, Eden Hazard. He specifically admires the former Chelsea star’s ball manipulation and direct approach to attacking.
