Ben Godfrey has finalized a loan switch to Rangers from Atalanta, with the Scottish club retaining an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season. The 28-year-old, who previously played for Everton, is eager to contribute to the club’s success and secure silverware. Godfrey expressed his enthusiasm about joining the historic team, citing the importance of the club’s stature.
The versatile defender, who can operate as both a centre-back and full-back, has experienced a challenging period regarding first-team minutes. Following his 2024 move to the Serie A side Atalanta, he managed only five appearances. His career path has included several loan spells recently, including a stint at Brondby where he played 12 times. Rangers manager Derek McInnes praised the arrival, highlighting Godfrey’s extensive background in the Premier League and his experience on the international stage with England. McInnes noted that the defender’s athleticism and technical ability will be valuable assets to the current squad.
