The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) unveiled the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE results on Wednesday. Out of 1,950,726 participants, 1,200,514 students, or 61.54%, secured credits in five or more subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, the Head of the WAEC Nigeria National Office, stated that this performance reflects a minor decline of 1.42% from the previous year. While 94.05% of results are ready, the remaining 5.95% are currently undergoing final processing.
Examination malpractice remains a concern, with 167,486 results withheld. Dr. Dangut highlighted that unauthorized mobile phone use and coordinated cheating within schools persist. Consequently, several invigilators and supervisors have been detained to face disciplinary action.
This exam cycle involved candidates from Nigeria, the Benin Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea. The council also accommodated 1,213 students with special needs. To improve efficiency, WAEC utilized the Digital Examiner Mark System (DEMS) and serialized question papers.
Successful candidates can access digital certificates through the official WAEC portal within 48 hours. Hard copies will become available after 90 days. Furthermore, the council noted that states with outstanding debts will not have their sponsored candidates’ results released until payments are settled.
