Soldiers from Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully blocked a terrorist breach at the Forward Operating Base in Kasuwan Daji, Zamfara State. During the defense, the military liberated nine civilians who had been taken by the attackers.
Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the acting spokesperson for the 8 Division, reported that the engagement began at 1:40 a.m. on August 2, 2026. The militants attempted to storm the site under the cover of night, but troops identified the threat and returned heavy fire. The attackers were forced to retreat in disorder.
During the pursuit following the clash, troops recovered the nine hostages from the fleeing group. Sadly, the engagement resulted in the deaths of one Army officer and one police officer. Two additional soldiers were wounded by gunfire and have since been airlifted for specialized medical attention; they are currently stable.
Osoba refuted online rumors claiming that six security personnel had died, confirming the lower casualty figure. Military forces are maintaining control of the region and continuing operations to track the remaining insurgents. He stated that the outcome highlights the military’s ongoing success in dismantling criminal networks throughout the North-West.
