Soldiers from the 34 Artillery Brigade, operating under Operation Udoka and Operation Eastern Sanity II, successfully located and recovered the body of the late Chief Ibe Anyadu from the Aggah community. Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed that the discovery occurred following the capture of a criminal group linked to regional violence.
Authorities identified the suspects after they were detained for the death of a Nigerian Army soldier and the theft of military weapons. During questioning, one individual admitted to participating in the killing of Chief Anyadu and pointed investigators toward the hidden burial site. On August 2, 2026, troops exhumed the remains from a shallow grave in Umudike Forest, a known criminal hideout. The procedure took place with the victim’s family, local vigilantes, and community representatives present. The family provided a coffin and transport for a proper burial.
Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, Commander of the Joint Task Force South-East, expressed sympathy for the bereaved family and pledged that the legal system would hold the suspects accountable. The military remains focused on dismantling criminal organizations in the South-East and asks the public to keep sharing reliable information to aid security efforts.
