The Accord Party in Osun State has publicly challenged the local police command, claiming that law enforcement is engaging in selective policing ahead of the August 15 governorship election. According to the party leadership, security operations are being used to harass their members rather than maintain order.
Pastor Victor Akande, the state chairman for the Accord Party, stated that the police have strayed from their neutral duties. The party argues that its members are being unfairly targeted while figures associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) appear to be spared from similar scrutiny. They specifically cited the case of Taofeeq Akinyemi, an Accord member currently in custody, despite him having been a victim of a shooting incident involving a person linked to the opposition.
The party leadership has called for the immediate release of those they describe as political detainees and urged for a more balanced approach to security. In response, the Osun State Police Command has firmly denied any political bias or the existence of a hit list. DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Police Public Relations Officer, explained that ongoing raids are directed solely at criminal hideouts and black spots to ensure safety during the election period. He emphasized that the police force remains committed to intelligence-led operations and is not influenced by political party affiliation.
