Bishop Stephen Adegbite, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, revealed that Catholic Cardinal John Onaiyekan previously refused to acknowledge Bola Tinubu as the legitimate president until the Supreme Court settled election disputes in 2023. During an interview on TVC, the Methodist cleric noted that he had countered Onaiyekan’s position at the time, insisting that a president was duly elected and remained in office until a legal reversal occurred.
Addressing the increase in political prophecies, Adegbite advised citizens to base their choices for the 2027 election on actual performance rather than religious prognostications. He expressed skepticism toward clergy members who issue such declarations, suggesting that many are merely seeking social media engagement and public notice.
The NCPC official encouraged political supporters to focus on promoting the achievements of their candidates instead of disparaging others. He suggested that the current administration’s record, including major infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, will serve as the primary factor in how voters view President Tinubu’s performance in the upcoming 2027 cycle.
