The Osun State Police Command has officially refuted claims by the Imole Campaign Council regarding a supposed plan to detain political actors before the upcoming August 15 gubernatorial vote. Police leadership maintained that their activities remain focused entirely on maintaining law and order throughout the state.
This dispute emerged Sunday when the Imole Campaign Council, which supports Governor Ademola Adeleke, asserted that authorities had identified 46 people for arrest. Kolapo Alimi, the deputy director-general for the council, spoke to the press in Osogbo, claiming that figures including Commissioner for Energy Ademola Adeyemo were targeted. Alimi further alleged that Taofeek Akinyemi, a local Accord leader, was detained after seeking help for a gunshot injury.
The council accused unnamed security personnel of working with political rivals to suppress opposition activities. Alimi requested that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, intervene to ensure neutral security protocols for the election. However, Osun Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi dismissed the accusations as unfounded. He explained that routine operations are strictly aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts to ensure a peaceful electoral environment. Ojelabi reiterated that the police service operates without bias and does not maintain lists of political targets.
