Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, the presidential flagbearer for the Accord Party, has stated that the upcoming governorship race in Osun State will serve as a bellwether for the behavior of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security services ahead of the 2027 general elections. He has formally requested that President Bola Tinubu ensure the contest is both fair and transparent.
This declaration followed a meeting where Hashim reviewed a report from an internal committee regarding the state of the Accord Party in Osun. Despite friction involving Governor Ademola Adeleke, whom Hashim accused of disloyalty, the presidential candidate emphasized that he would not resort to political sabotage. Instead, he encouraged members to focus on grassroots organization rather than seeking revenge.
Hashim cited his Christian faith and principles as the motivation for his restraint, noting that he holds no personal vendetta against the Adeleke family. He suggested that their recent political alignment with President Tinubu, despite pressure from the All Progressives Congress (APC), likely stems from unseen external circumstances. Rather than harboring anger, he expressed sympathy for their situation.
The Accord Party leader concluded by thanking those who remained loyal to his vision. He stressed that the party’s strength depends on the dedication of its members and urged them to remain unified and prepared for the upcoming electoral cycle.
