The All Progressives Congress (APC) achieved a comprehensive victory in the recent Gombe State local government elections, securing all 24 chairmanship positions and all 240 councillorship seats. Abdullahi Garba, the head of the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC), confirmed these results after finalizing the vote counts.
This election marked a significant administrative change, as it was the first held since Gombe expanded from 11 to 24 local government areas. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya championed this structural growth by creating 13 Local Council Development Areas, aiming to improve local governance. Legislation supported by the Gombe State House of Assembly solidified this transition, expanding the number of councillorship seats from 114 to 240.
While various political parties took part, the APC was the only one to field candidates in every contest. Other participants included the African Action Congress, Democratic Leadership Alliance, Youth Party, Zenith Labour Party, and National Rescue Movement, though their reach was limited compared to the APC. Garba praised the peaceful environment of the polling process and acknowledged the cooperation of security forces, observers, and other stakeholders in facilitating the event.
