Authorities have arrested four individuals following an attack on three Filipino crew members from a cargo ship docked in Avonmouth. The incident, which occurred on Friday evening near Richmond Terrace, is being investigated as a suspected hate crime due to reports of racist language used during the altercation.
A 19-year-old man, a 45-year-old man, and a 17-year-old boy were taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder. Additionally, a 38-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. The police clarified that no knives or bladed weapons were utilized during the assault.
One victim remains in critical condition at the hospital after sustaining serious injuries. A second crew member was treated and discharged, while the third suffered minor wounds. Superintendent Deepak Kenth emphasized that while the investigation is ongoing, authorities believe this was an isolated event with no broader threat to the public. The charity Stand Against Racism & Inequality (SARI) is currently providing support to the victims as the police continue to solicit information from witnesses.
