Nigeria Democratic Congress claims APC has undermined the nation’s democratic system

The Nigeria Democratic Congress asserts that the ruling APC party is actively dismantling democratic institutions and mistreating political opponents ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of causing significant harm to the nation’s democratic foundations. Osa Director, the NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, expressed these concerns during a Saturday interview on Symfoni TV while discussing the political landscape leading up to the 2027 general elections.

Drawing a parallel to the concepts in the book Why Democracies Die by Harvard scholars, Director argued that current leadership is actively weakening the state. He emphasized that the primary threat to democracy stems from officials who gain power through legal means only to manipulate institutions for their own ends. According to Director, the current administration displays a disregard for the judiciary and press freedom while treating opposition figures as adversaries to be dismantled.
