Dutch cycling star Lorena Wiebes claimed the inaugural stage of the Tour de France Femmes, earning the leader’s yellow jersey after a dominant sprint finish. Despite facing a challenging 1.5-mile climb late in the 85.5-mile route near Lausanne, Wiebes maintained her position within a lead group of approximately 20 competitors.
With 200 metres remaining, the Team SD Worx-Protime athlete accelerated to cross the line a bike length ahead of Kim le Court-Pienaar and Demi Vollering. This success marks her sixth career stage win at the event, strengthening her record since the race’s 2022 revival. The two-time European champion expressed surprise at the victory, noting that her teammates’ efforts helped overcome her own initial reservations.
Elsewhere in the race, Oceane Mahe of France earned the Queen of the Mountains jersey after securing points on two category-three climbs. Meanwhile, the 2026 tour continues with 147 riders set to tackle nine stages, including an upcoming climb of Mont Ventoux. Stage two will see the peloton travel from Aigle to Geneva, offering another opportunity for sprinters to shine.
