Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has convened with prominent figures of the Rainbow Coalition to determine the future leadership of Rivers State. The private gathering in Port Harcourt includes influential political leaders from diverse backgrounds, specifically members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and various factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reports suggest these stakeholders are working toward selecting a consensus candidate to represent the coalition, with indications that the individual will likely be sourced from the APC. The Rainbow Coalition was established by the former Rivers State governor to consolidate support for President Bola Tinubu and manage state political transitions.
While addressing an audience in Port Harcourt, Wike clarified that no definitive choice for the next governor has been settled upon. This statement aims to address rumors suggesting that APC candidate Ogundu Kingsley Chinda is his preferred successor. Currently, the incumbent, Siminalayi Fubara, is not seeking another term, and his replacement is expected to be chosen from within the coalition ranks.
