Nirmal Purja and Expedition Team Die in Pakistan Avalanche

Renowned climber Nirmal Purja and nine fellow expedition members have died following an avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak.

Elite Expeditions has announced that acclaimed mountaineer and veteran Nirmal Purja lost his life during an avalanche on Broad Peak, Pakistan. The company expressed deep sorrow as it confirmed the tragedy occurred this Thursday.

Authorities have verified that all ten members of the climbing party perished in the event. Among the group, the remains of three climbers—Mallory Geis from the United States, Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy from Oman, and Pur Bahadur Gurung from Nepal—have already been recovered by Pakistani officials.

Nirmal Purja, originally from Nepal, gained international fame in 2019 after successfully summiting all 14 of the world’s tallest peaks in a record-breaking timeframe of slightly more than six months. The situation remains an active report as further information becomes available.
