A militant strike attributed to Boko Haram in southeastern Niger resulted in the deaths of approximately 10 soldiers. State media confirmed the incident, which took place on Friday near N’Guigmi, a garrison town situated within the marshy Lake Chad territory.
While state news agency ANP did not specify casualty figures, it acknowledged fatalities following an assault by the group near the town. Local residents reported that the death toll included 10 soldiers and four national guard members. Following the attack, General Mahamadou Ibrahim, the governor of Diffa, visited the site to supervise the burial of the fallen personnel.
The Boko Haram insurgency, which began in 2009, has claimed thousands of lives and forced millions from their homes. Although a regional military coalition previously addressed the spillover of violence into neighboring nations, operations have faced complications since Niger withdrew from the alliance after a recent military takeover.
