The Nigeria Police Force is working to bolster its ability to investigate terrorism following a specialized training initiative hosted in Morocco. The program was supported by the United Nations.
This initiative focuses on enhancing intelligence-based investigations to help dismantle terrorist organizations. A formal statement from Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, confirmed the details on Friday.
The three-week session occurred in Rabat from July 13 to 31. Officers from Nigeria, Kenya, and Burkina Faso participated in the event, which was coordinated by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in partnership with Al Akhawayn University.
ACP Favour Fadawa led a 10-person Nigerian team from the Police Academy. They focused on techniques for identifying criminal networks, gathering legal evidence, and adhering to the rule of law during operations.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu highlighted the growing complexity of transnational criminal threats. He ordered DIG Isyaku Mohammed and the Academy Commandant to incorporate these new methods into the national police curriculum.
Furthermore, the Inspector-General noted that progress is being made toward launching an Executive Master’s program at the Nigeria Police Academy. The Force thanked the United Nations, Al Akhawayn University, and the Moroccan government for their support in improving regional security efforts.
