Timi Frank, who previously served as the Deputy National Publicity Secretary for the All Progressives Congress, has questioned the current electoral influence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Frank’s comments followed remarks made by Obasanjo concerning Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress.
In a statement released on Friday, Frank suggested that Obasanjo habitually attacks Atiku as election cycles draw near rather than genuinely supporting an alternative. He described these criticisms as a predictable ritual, noting that the former president frequently shifts blame onto his former deputy for past administrative shortcomings. Frank insisted that these recurring public grievances will not sway the results of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the former president directly, Frank claimed that Obasanjo’s political capital has faded, pointing out that candidates backed by the elder statesman have frequently lost elections, including within his home state of Ogun. He advised Obasanjo to stop focusing on Atiku and instead openly promote a preferred candidate if one exists. Furthermore, Frank challenged Obasanjo to scrutinize the current government’s performance rather than targeting Atiku, asserting that voters alone will determine future leadership. He concluded by stating that if Atiku is destined for the presidency, no individual attempt to thwart his ambition will succeed.
