The North East Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has denounced the recent killing of a tricycle operator in Taraba State. The individual reportedly lost his life following a confrontation regarding a N300 levy, an event the organization labeled a grim illustration of how violence destroys lives.
In an official statement released over the weekend, YOWICAN Chairman Evang. Jesse Ephesian stated that human life holds intrinsic value and should not be discarded over monetary arguments. He insisted that physical force is never an acceptable solution for settling disagreements.
YOWICAN has requested that the Taraba State Tricycle Association immediately evaluate its internal rules and enforcement protocols to avoid future tragedies. Furthermore, the group urged the union to educate its members on managing emotions, respecting the law, and choosing peaceful communication.
The organization also requested that the Taraba State government and local security forces collaborate with transit unions to enhance safety and enforce discipline across the transportation sector. YOWICAN encouraged young people in the region to turn away from aggression, reminding them that the impacts of violence are permanent. They called for a neutral, rigorous investigation by law enforcement to ensure those responsible for the death face appropriate legal consequences.
