Law enforcement officers operating at the Odo Iya Alaro Link Bridge in Maryland, Lagos, face serious allegations that they shoved a driver off the structure during a conflict regarding a suspected BRT lane infraction. The incident became public after a video was posted on Facebook by Objectv Media this Friday.
According to the footage and accompanying claims, officers halted the driver for allegedly utilizing the bus-only lane. The situation spiraled into a verbal argument over the supposed violation and the resulting fine, ending with the driver being pushed from the bridge. The video shows a group of officers arguing with onlookers, while a separate segment features a man on the ground encircled by concerned witnesses.
The narrator in the video alleged that these officers frequently target drivers in the area to extort between N50,000 and N100,000 under the guise of traffic fines. The individual behind the camera claimed the victim was attacked specifically because he would not provide the demanded payment. The current physical state and identity of the victim remain unknown at this time.
Official channels have been slow to respond to these claims. Mr. Kolawole Ojelabi of LAMATA redirected inquiries to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, where Director Bolanle Ogunlola could not be reached. Furthermore, Lagos State Police spokesperson CSP Abimbola Adebisi did not respond to multiple phone calls or text messages requesting comment on the matter.
