Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that the assault on the capital injured at least 15 people, a figure that includes two teenagers aged 13 and 17. The Kyiv City Military Administration officially verified the death toll.
Russia has recently increased the frequency of its ballistic missile campaigns against the Ukrainian capital, which has led President Volodymyr Zelensky to stress the urgent necessity for more interceptor systems. These latest strikes occurred just two days after a suspected Russian cruise missile hit Polish territory during a broader offensive that claimed the lives of eight people, including six relatives in a town near Kryvyih Rih.
Klitschko reported that the capital experienced a ballistic missile barrage characterized by over 10 distinct explosions. The violence caused fires throughout the city and left certain districts without electricity. A residential structure in the Shevchenkivskyi district suffered partial destruction, trapping occupants, while a warehouse fire broke out in the Darnytskyi district.
The surge in attacks follows recent discussions in Washington DC, where President Zelensky met with President Donald Trump to advocate for a license allowing Ukraine to manufacture Patriot interceptor missiles. During a Friday cabinet meeting at Camp David, Trump noted that while discussions remain open, the US has not yet approved domestic production of these missiles for Ukraine, citing the gravity of sharing such advanced defense technology. As Russian air strikes intensify, Ukraine faces depleting stocks of Patriot missiles, which currently serve as the primary defensive tool for neutralizing ballistic threats.
