Habse Ubale, 30, lost her life during a violent attack linked to witchcraft accusations in Garin Malam Village, located in the Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. On July 28, 2026, a group of attackers reportedly breached the home of Audu Sabo, the husband of the deceased.
Police reports identify Garba Daudu, 35, as the primary suspect. He is believed to have worked with two accomplices, Ya’u Garba and Musa, to conduct the raid. During the confrontation, the assailants struck Habse Ubale with a machete. Audu Sabo and two children, Sale Audu and Yakubu Audu, were also assaulted with sticks.
Authorities and local security volunteers moved the victims to the General Hospital in Gamawa. Medical staff pronounced Habse Ubale dead upon arrival. While some family members were treated and released, one survivor remains hospitalized. Currently, one suspect is in custody, and police are actively searching for the other two participants.
The State Criminal Investigation Department has assumed control of the case. Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, publicly condemned the violence, urging citizens to reject mob justice rooted in superstition. He pledged to pursue the case vigorously and requested public assistance in locating the remaining suspects.
