ADC Pledges to Revitalize Rivers State Branch

The African Democratic Congress has reaffirmed its structural legitimacy in Rivers State following a court-backed resolution of its leadership crisis, calling for unity under its new executive committee.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is prioritizing the restoration and fortification of its presence in Rivers State. Following the legal conclusion of an internal leadership conflict, the party has urged all members to foster unity and uphold the rule of law.

Chief Luckyman Egila, the state publicity secretary, issued a statement in Port Harcourt to clarify the party’s position. He denounced unauthorized individuals who continue to present themselves as local or state executives despite court rulings. According to Egila, the Federal High Court in Abuja, under Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/581/2026, previously struck down past conventions and congresses that ignored the party constitution. New, legitimate leadership has since been established.

The current executive committee for Rivers State is led by Chairman Engr. Ode Lawrence Egbagiri. Other officers include State Secretary Hon. Iheanyi Eugene Eke, Legal Adviser Barr. Hamza Victor Chukure, Publicity Secretary Chief Luckyman Egila, Youth Leader Comrade Emmanuel Deinma, and Woman Leader Hon. Helen Sese Cookey-Gan. These officials are tasked with a four-year term.

Legal legitimacy was further solidified on July 13, 2026, when the Abuja Court of Appeal dismissed an attempt to overturn the initial high court ruling. Egila emphasized that the appellate court decision underscores the necessity of internal democracy and the primacy of the party’s constitution. He encouraged the public to ignore any unauthorized claims from individuals outside the Egbagiri-led executive team.

The party leadership is now calling for calm and collective progress, viewing these legal outcomes as a chance to resolve internal strife and build a more cohesive organization. Egila stated that the party’s goal is to ensure that its institutional integrity, transparency, and adherence to democratic principles guide its future efforts in Rivers State.
