The Nigerian government has introduced a nationwide capacity-building project focused on Artificial Intelligence for instructors within federal unity colleges. This effort aims to provide 11,700 teachers with advanced digital competencies to improve instructional methods across the nation.
The project moved forward following the execution of a Terms of Reference agreement between the Federal Ministry of Education and ICEDT Consult Limited. This initiative is managed by the Ministry’s Education Support Services Department and aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to modernize the academic sector and better prepare students for a digital global market.
Gabriel Amudipe, representing the Education Support Services Department, highlighted that this project is a key investment in the national teaching staff. He noted that the national rollout builds on a successful pilot program, and he urged government monitors to ensure high standards during the implementation phase across all six geopolitical zones.
According to Dr. Abdulrahman Orosanya of ICEDT Consult Limited, the pilot study showed that Artificial Intelligence improves lesson planning, assessment processes, and general productivity. By expanding this training, the government intends to foster a technology-forward environment that equips students with necessary 21st-century skills.
