Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has initiated a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to probe the recent kidnapping of students and educators from the Esinele and Yawota regions within the Oriire Local Government Area.
Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, announced the development on Thursday in Ibadan. He stated that the committee is charged with uncovering the specific details of the abduction and pinpointing the security vulnerabilities that allowed the incident to occur.
The panel, scheduled for formal inauguration this Friday, will provide suggestions to stop future kidnappings. According to Oyelade, the group will review how authorities responded to the crisis and suggest strategies to bolster safety for schools and residents statewide. This move highlights the governor’s pledge to conduct a transparent and impartial review of the situation.
Records indicate that the victims were taken on May 15 and were finally set free after being held for 56 days.
