The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress has stepped in to resolve ongoing disputes within its Anambra State branch, officially confirming Senator Emma Anosike as the state chairman. Dr. Benjamin Nwoye, the party’s Deputy National Chairman for the South, traveled to Awka with a reconciliation team to deliver the announcement to local stakeholders.
This intervention follows a period of instability initiated by members who contested Anosike’s leadership after the March state congress. That faction had attempted to replace him with Ifeanyichukwu Osegbo and seized control of the Awka party office. During the meeting, Nwoye also clarified that Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the party’s former governorship candidate, retains his position as the APC leader in Anambra, with Uche Ekwunife serving as his deputy.
Nwoye emphasized the need for cohesion as the 2027 elections approach, warning that continued infighting threatens the party’s success. He noted that the national body successfully secured a stay of execution from the Court of Appeal to override previous legal restrictions against Anosike. He urged members to withdraw pending lawsuits in favor of a broader, more inclusive executive structure. Stressing that the party now prioritizes dialogue over conflict, Nwoye called on all local leaders to support the reconciliation efforts. In response, Anosike promised an inclusive leadership style to ensure the party remains competitive in future political contests.
