The Lagos State Police Command is currently looking into the death of 32-year-old dispatch rider Emmanuel Jegede, who died on the Ikotun-Idimu Road in Alimosho. The incident, which took place around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, has resulted in varying reports about the cause of the fatal crash.
Witnesses state that Jegede had previously been involved in a minor accident with a tricycle. Although locals helped mediate the situation, the victim was allegedly accosted by individuals seeking payment for their help. When he stated he could not pay, witnesses claim these individuals waited for him and shoved him off his motorcycle, causing him to crash into a culvert.
However, police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi stated that officials are examining multiple theories. While one account suggests the rider swerved to avoid a pedestrian, another involves the suspicion that he was pushed by people who subsequently fled the scene. Authorities are currently reviewing local CCTV footage to clarify the events leading up to the tragedy.
Officers from the Idimu Police Division recovered the body shortly after the incident was reported by a member of the Federal Road Safety Corps. The investigation remains active as police work to determine the factual cause of the rider’s death.
