The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern directive to political appointees in President Bola Tinubu’s administration: participate in party mobilization or resign. National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda declared that officials cannot hide behind the ‘technocrat’ label to avoid political duties.
During a meeting with the Progressive Local Government Chairmen’s Forum in Abuja, led by Dr. Mustafa Jibrin, Yilwatda emphasized that political appointees are, by definition, part of the political structure. He argued that rejecting political involvement while holding government office is illogical, comparing it to ignoring one’s clear ethnic identity. Yilwatda tasked local council leaders with monitoring the political performance of appointees in their respective wards, noting that administrative success alone is insufficient.
The party chairman warned that those uncomfortable with partisan activities should have declined their appointments. He stressed that the APC’s survival depends on securing votes, and appointees must actively contribute to this goal. Yilwatda pledged the party’s full cooperation for the forum’s upcoming mobilization initiatives, including state-level coordination and rallies.
Dr. Jibrin reported that the forum, representing over 685 local government chairmen and supported by 31 state governors, aims to secure 70 percent of the vote for President Tinubu in 2027. The group plans a significant endorsement event to solidify their support for the president’s re-election campaign.
