A building project currently in its second story collapsed this Wednesday in the Unguwar Rogo area of Sokoto, situated along Bauchi Road. Amazingly, all 15 laborers working on the site managed to avoid injury during the incident.
The Sokoto division of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that they arrived at the site shortly after receiving an alert at 2:23 p.m. Their initial evaluation confirmed that all 15 employees were accounted for, with no fatalities or physical harm reported.
A diverse group of responders collaborated at the location to ensure the site was secure and to conduct a thorough search. This coalition included the Federal Fire Service, the State Emergency Management Agency, local police, civil defense officers, the Red Cross, and local civil engineers. The Sokoto State Police spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, officially verified that the event resulted in zero casualties.
Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, who owns the property, expressed sadness over the destruction but noted his gratitude that the workforce remained safe. Officials are now working to identify the factors that led to the collapse.
