Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called upon President Bola Tinubu to prioritize the resolution of pressing national issues instead of focusing on political adversaries as the 2027 election approaches. Through his aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku stated that the administration’s performance record is a far greater concern than any opposition party, including the African Democratic Congress.
This critique comes after President Tinubu informed the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria that he is ready to engage in a political battle for re-election. Atiku countered that in an era defined by economic strife, widespread insecurity, and unemployment, the government must direct its energy toward stabilizing the naira, reducing inflation, and addressing hunger.
The former vice president argued that the President should focus on fighting the crises affecting citizens—such as the inability to afford daily meals and the rampant violence in farming regions—rather than engaging in political posturing. He emphasized that voters in 2027 will evaluate candidates based on their track record of service, not their combativeness. Atiku concluded that the public desires a leader who delivers tangible results, noting that history prioritizes effective governance over aggressive political rhetoric.
